1RM Calculator and Strength Standards

Enter a working set for any of the three lifts. You get an estimated one-rep max for each, then where it ranks as a multiple of your bodyweight.

Selects the standards table. It does not change the one-rep max conversion.

Leave any lift blank and it is skipped.

How this is worked out

Every formula below is published, and so is where it comes from. If you disagree with one, you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Estimated one-rep max (Epley)
1RM = weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30) Epley, 1985. One of the two conversions in general use, alongside Brzycki. Both are reliable to roughly ten reps and drift optimistic past that, which is why this form stops at twelve.
Rank
estimated 1RM ÷ bodyweight, compared against a tier table Bodyweight multiples from the strength standards in common coaching use. These are a widely shared rule of thumb, not a measurement against a surveyed population, and this page does not present them as one.
  • An estimate from a working set is not a tested maximum. Do not load a bar to this number without a coach and a safe setup.
  • This is general training information, not medical advice, and it does not assess injury or fitness to train.
  • Composition Check Waist-to-height and estimated body fat from two measurements, with the gap in kilograms rather than a score out of nothing.
  • Deficit Check Maintenance calories, a deficit band, and the protein floor. No date attached to a kilogram, because that is not a number anyone can honestly give you.
  • Race Readiness Projects your running from a 5k, then shows what the target you picked leaves you for the eight stations. Usually less than people expect.
  • Programme Builder How many sessions your goal takes, how many need a coach, and whether the weeks you have are enough. It will tell you when they are not.
