Personal Training After Physio in Soho

Go from the end of physiotherapy to training properly again, with 1-2-1 personal training at UNTIL Soho in the same building as HCPC-registered physiotherapists.

Training After Physio

How a physio and a personal trainer work together

A physiotherapist diagnoses and treats an injury. A personal trainer takes over once you are discharged, building the strength and capacity you need for everything you want to get back to. The handover is where many people drop off: rehab ends, normal training restarts too hard, and the same problem returns.

At UNTIL Soho the two work in the same building. Soho Physiotherapy and Kaizen Physiotherapy & Performance are HCPC-registered physiotherapy practices, and YB Osteopathy is GOsC registered. With your permission, your trainer can talk to your physio, so training starts where rehab finished. If you have not seen anyone yet, choose "Post-injury comeback" on the enquiry form and we will point you to a physio first.

Sessions cost from £80 an hour with no UNTIL membership. Strength training is usually where the programme heads next.

The benefits of personal training after physio

It picks up where rehab ends

The first programme starts from what your physio found and the exercises you finished with, so nothing restarts from zero.

Load that builds in steps

Weights and volume rise in small, planned steps, with a check after each session on how the injured area responded.

Technique checked on every lift

Your trainer watches the movements that caused the problem and corrects them within the set.

A trainer who talks to your physio

With your permission, your trainer and your physio stay in touch, and two HCPC-registered practices treat in the same building.

Confidence back in the movement

Lifting, running or playing again feels less risky when you have already done it in the gym under supervision.

Room to spare

The aim is strength above what daily life and your sport ask of you, so the injured area has capacity to spare.

Why injuries come back after rehab

  • Stopping the rehab exercises as soon as the pain goes, before strength has fully returned
  • Going straight back to the old training load after weeks off
  • Nobody checking the movement that caused the problem in the first place
  • Training that avoids the injured area completely, so it never gets strong again
  • A gap between the physio's plan and what happens in the gym
  • Pain that changes from day to day, with no plan for how to adjust

FAQs

Should I see a physio or a personal trainer?

See a physiotherapist first if you have pain, a new injury or anything that has not been diagnosed. See a personal trainer once a physio or GP has cleared you to train, or if you simply want to get stronger. At UNTIL Soho both work in the same building, so moving from one to the other is straightforward.

When can I start personal training after an injury?

Once your physiotherapist or GP is happy for you to train. That is usually when day-to-day movement is comfortable and you have finished the main phase of rehab. Your trainer starts below what you think you can do and builds up in steps, checking how the injured area responds after each session.

Can a personal trainer help with back pain?

A personal trainer does not diagnose or treat back pain, so see a physiotherapist or GP first if the pain is new, severe or spreading. Once you have been assessed and cleared, strength training built around what you can do comfortably is a common part of staying active, and your trainer follows your physio's guidance.

Do you work with my physio?

Yes, with your permission. If your physio treats at UNTIL Soho, your trainer can speak to them directly, and if they work elsewhere, a short summary from them is enough to start. Either way, the first programme is built from what your physio found, so the gym work carries on from the rehab.

Is training after physio different from normal personal training?

The first few weeks are. Sessions start with lighter loads, more checks on the movements that caused the problem and a slower build than a normal programme. Once the injured area handles normal training without flaring up, the programme moves on to your wider goal, such as strength, muscle or weight loss.
